Here is a few reasons why we decided to Quercus Suber - Cork Oak trees:
- Due to the production of its bark it absorbs a lot more CO2 than any other tree.
- Provides a natural habitat for the endangered Iberian lynx which prefers heterogeneous environments of open grassland mixed with dense shrubs such as strawberry tree, and cork oak.
- The trees support a remarkable abundance and variety of rare and endangered wildlife, including the black vulture, booted eagle, bonelli’s eagle and short-toed eagle, which make giant nests in cork-trees and eats snakes.
- The slow combustion of cork makes it a natural fire retardant, forming a barrier against fires. Its combustion does not release smoke or toxic gases.
